Dr Zarooni was appointed Director General of the Dubai Airport Free Zone in 2000 and CEO of Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) and Vice chairman of DSO on 2005. In 1995 he joined the Department of Civil Aviation as Director of Administration & Research.
